As a nature-based landscape architect, my role involves working in multidisciplinary teams and with stakeholders to create beautiful meaningful places, which are restorative to ourselves and to nature. In practice I aim for contribution to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly sustainable harmony with life on Earth.
My particular areas of interest are in modern landscape architecture approach, blending a strong research base and artist sensibility into people-centred, ecology-led design.
Principles and interests I have developed:
- Full understanding/recognition of site, before design. This is achieved through strength of research and analysis, visiting the site and being present with its existing and potential ecologies.
- Collaborative people-centred approach towards place-making and by extension, resilience building, which is now acknowledged as critical in facing some of the critical challenges of our humanity’s time, posed by urbanisation, globalisation, the climate and biodiversity crisis soil, water and ecosystem degradation.
- Art as an activator. Actor participation and co-creation.
- I’m very proud to be one of our six founding signatories of Irish Landscape Architects Declare Climate & Biodiversity Emergency. We are part of a global movement of professionals who want to activate change in the built environment.
